What happens when an award-winning filmmaker (and convicted counterfeiter) meets a recovering alcoholic who quit his job at a landfill on a whim to travel the country? An unlikely friendship--and an even more unlikely business partnership--is born. The mysterious relationship between Walker Roe and Riley Dutcher made headlines back in the summer of 1992, when the two men were brutally murdered. Only now--with the discovery and authentication of their personal journals--has the world been able to learn about what really happened between them and the inspiring dream they shared. A witty, character driven story of redemption, second chances and the big events that lie in little people. This award winning book was named by critics as; "the novel so believable, that you cannot read it without Googling to verify if it really happened."

Enjoyable Characters By Betsy Natter As the dot moved from left to right on the bottom of my e-reader indicating my growing “percentage read” value, my anxiety rose – I’d soon be finished reading 33 Cecils, but I didn’t want it to end. The characters in 33 Cecils are truly engaging and likeable, people that are pleasant to spend time with. As we read their personal journals, we authentically get inside their heads and hearts and come to know them intimately. De Morier skillfully shows that everyone has a deeper story to their life than what is seen by the casual acquaintance or misguided media. From outward appearances, Walker and Dutch aren’t the kind of people I would pick as friends, an ex-con and a drunk. But maybe they could be. You can’t really judge a book by its cover.References to locations, media commentary and recent events caused me to stop and remind myself that yes, I was reading a work of fiction. While part of their communication pattern, some of the characters’ repetitive phrases are distracting, but not enough to take away from the enjoyment of the book as a whole. 33 Cecils was thought provoking, captivating and definitely a good read.

Not a turn in the story was predictable to me and nowhere does story get stale as you inhabit the minds of these men progressing through their lives. I highly recommend this for entertainment, subtle humor, and a reminder of how much we don't know about whar goes on within people we pass by each day. Pick this up to read and have a good time.

Mr. De Morier has spun a great tale, a stream of consciousness writing style that is fitting with the personal journal perspective. His ability to paint realistic events, interspersed with dry wit, while keeping the reader engaged as the story unfolds is not to be missed.
