About the Author Alex M. Liuzzi is not a professional writer. The challenging and ever-changing field of child-rearing is his primary occupation, with anything in the field of education a distant second. He does, however, attempt to uncover humor and a bit of truth in himself and in the world through the medium of fiction. Before "I Am Here", there have been and will be other novels ("Over Mud Creek" and "The Center of the Universe"). You may or may not purchase them. Other books and films have explored the transgender experience through the eyes of adults. But this beautiful story is told through the voice of an 11-year-old kid who faces lots of typical growing-up challenges, colored by the fact she is also transgender. This carefully crafted work speaks to the challenge we each face to be real and present, first with ourselves and then in our community. Bravo.
