About the Author Drawing on years of research and clinical experience specializing in digestive disorders, John Immel directs the Master of Ayurvedic Digestion 500 hour certification program. He is the founder of Joyful Belly Ayurveda. John studied Ayurveda under Dr. Vasant Lad and is specialized in the advanced treatment of digestive tract pathology. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Harvard University. He first discovered Ayurveda while working on a public health project in Bangladesh. John's interest in Ayurveda and digestive tract pathology was inspired by a complex digestive disorder acquired from years of international travel.Nathalie Hine received her 600 hour certification in Ayurveda at the Asheville School of Massage and Yoga, and received her 500 hour certification through the Master Ayurvedic Nutrition and Digestion Program at Joyful Belly Ayurveda. She specializes in cleansing and detoxification therapies, and is well versed in western nutrition. She earned her undergraduate degree in Religious Studies at Vassar College where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors. Nathalie used the principles of Ayurveda to heal from severe anorexia which at one time left her hospitalized. She now offers her insights to help other young women find freedom from eating disorders. Nathalie is fluent in Swedish, and is an avid student of yoga.

As a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders, I found it very helpful as most people I have worked with over many years know what they are "should" and "shouldn't" eat and have received tons of advice from well intentioned nutritionists, including some ayurvedic practitioners, which they are not able to put into practice for emotional and other reasons. While this book does not address the deep seated psychological complexities behind eating disorders, it does explore and explain some of the ways that using food to address emotional and energetic issues in our culture makes sense and by gaining such understanding how we can better take care of ourselves physically, energetically and emotionally.One small critical comment was that I found many typos to the point of distraction and hope that it will undergo the second printing it deserves and find these corrected.
