I definitely wanted to read more after the first chapter.I felt as if I was seeing the world through Morgan's eyes. I could hear the river, see the gardens and visualize the hummingbird perfectly.The pace moved quickly, but not so fast I couldn't keep up. The dialogue was believable - it was like listening to a conversation among friends.I found myself not wanting to put the book down because I had to see how the story unfolded. Cedar Conundrums makes a good "cozy mystery."Well done!
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Trying very hard to finish this book By S. Peters I enjoyed the first two in the series but I am having trouble finishing this one. The author has decided to use this book as a platform to educate her readers on the problems surrounding racial inequality in America. The topic is certainly timely, however the way she weaves the lack of black representation in Sutton and the surrounding communities feels unnatural to the characters. Regardless of the reason for Morgan's get togethers, the immediate observation of her and her friends is the percentage of white persons in the room, the restaurant, the museum, the outdoors etc. Ms. Shea sets up her protagonist as a person with a visceral calling to help the disenfranchised while protecting herself. The former being noble however the obvious hammering through words coupled with the undying devotion to her cause via Jason verges on the unbelievable based on past exploration of these characters. I can tell that there is an attempt to show the contrast between two worlds but to me, the result was one dimensional characters and mostly lecture with a bit of mystery tossed in. At least for my first 60% effort. If the tune changes by the time I finish, I will be back to add further comment. If the story remains the same, this one will be my last.
