Mystery with romantic elements, Chanticleer Murder and Mayhem 2015 - Official FinalistMirabella Hudson soon learns that the Great Detective has more in store for her than washing jars and labeling specimens: pistol shooting, fencing, boxing, and Jiu-Jitsu. This she can master, but Mirabella must face the greatest horror of all: Miss de Beauvais' Finishing School for Distinguished Young Ladies.Sherlock Holmes gets more than he bargained for when he hires his landlady's young ward to keep his laboratory in order. Mrs. Hudson's niece might be clever, but Mirabella Hudson is insubordinate, talks too much, is an accident waiting to happen--and, worst of all, is distractingly pretty.Unfortunately, 'pretty' is just what Sherlock Holmes needs.Sherlock might be a master of disguise, but pretty he is not. The Great Detective requires a female operative to go under cover at London's premier finishing school where Princess Elena Petrovic-Njegos of Montenegro is a client--and the target of an assassination plot. If the inexperienced Miss Hudson and her employer do not succeed in saving the princess, there is trouble brewing across the globe that could potentially lead to war on a massive scale. Montenegro is a small Serbian country, but She has among her allies the Mother Russia. One unsuccessful case could ruin this young detective's career before it starts. Above all, Sherlock must have work--and he must be in pursuit. Work is the blood in his veins. Work is life. The game is afoot! And there can be no greater puzzle than what he receives in the form of one Mirabella Hudson--who might stump even Sherlock Holmes.

Review "A Sherlock tale with Hepburn and Tracy flair . . . It had the feel of a classic old Hollywood mismatched romantic comedy to me.... Hepburn and Tracy. It was charming and would really appeal to people who love the idea of a kind of Jane Austen meets Conan Doyle mash-up." - RaynaRed, Audible reviewer
From the Author First in the series is a mystery involving Sherlock Holmes, his landlady's niece, and Dr. John Watson. Sword Princess is written in both Sherlock Holmes' and Miss Hudson's point-of-view (POV) which yields deeper insight into the Great Detective than many Sherlock Holmes novels which are told entirely from Watson's POV. Consequently, even though there is the beginning of a light romance in the book, it is, first and foremost, a Sherlock Holmes narrative. My goal in writing historical fiction is to engage the reader in a magical journey of time travel. I am passionate about my current Sherlock Holmes series in which the Great Detective's landlady's niece is a potential love interest amidst this Victorian mystery. Sherlock Holmes is a great, fun hero to write because he is liked from the get-go despite being pompous and insufferable (or perhaps because of it!), something which might result in an unsympathetic hero in another narrative. The series draws on the imagery surrounding the beloved Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (in particular, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law), incorporates the witty banter into the relationship between Sherlock and Mirabella, and lends itself well to Steam punk, blending the "Age of Invention" with something old-fashioned, elegant, and slower-paced. Enjoy. The game is afoot!
From the Inside Flap Suzette Hollingsworth's writing style combines wit with elegance and can be described as "A Jane Austen and Robert Downey Jr. meet on the African Queen type of Historical Romance".

By Linda Molidor Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Sword Princess was a book revisiting The Old Master of Detection on Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes. The time period had changed but Sherlock was still at his elementary best, mentoring a female cohort in the new science of forensics and defense. The criminal plot was thin and laced with too many female apparel descriptions that were not germane, but as a foundation to a series of Sherlock Holmes new cases it has some promise.“I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review”.

Or, better yet, encourage her to find another occupation. The plot of this novel is ridiculous, the denouement has nothing to do with the "case" upon which the novel is supposed to hinge, and the "case" seems to resolve itself without any explanation or apparently any action on the part of Miss Hudson or Mr Holmes. Worse yet, the writing is childish, ungrammatical and anachronistic. The worst example is the author's habit of spelling out sound effects. Miss Hudson doesn't gasp, she says, "gasp;" horses in the street don't neigh, they say "neigh, neigh." Reading this book was painful. I would have put it down after the first few pages, but I actually became fascinated by its awfulness. Now I have read it, so you don't have to. If any fans of the Great Detective want to read well-written novels involving Sherlock and a woman who is both his intellectual and emotional match, forget this drivel and head directly for Laurie R. King's wonderful Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes novels.

I am a long-time fan of Sherlock Holmes and always enjoy finding more tribute fiction about him By Krista Gimeno I received this book in exchange for an honest review.I am a long-time fan of Sherlock Holmes and always enjoy finding more tribute fiction about him. I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I expected less depth in the characters, and a greater departure from Holmes' signature lack of interest in women, given that its series is titled The Great Detective in Love. In fact, this book is more about Mirabella Hudson, and her training by Holmes and Watson, and her growth as a strong woman, than about either of the two men. I really LIKE Mirabella. The book also appears to creditably portray Holmes at his savant and irritating best. Watson's personality seemed slightly less sober and dramatic than Conan Doyle's character, but I didn't like him less for that. I will be interested to see what happens in the next book.I would also mention I found a slightly steampunk element to it, with steam engines and whatnot. I like steampunk literature too, so I enjoyed the touch I detected in this story.
