For every man there’s a girl who grips his imagination and his heart as no other girl ever did or will. She may be in her teens or a mature woman. He responds to her as a boy to a girl. Whether she comes early in his life or late, there is a throne in his subconscious that she takes possession of, without trying, often without wanting to. The image he forms of her reigns there in perpetuity, even if she has left his life, or this life. Or shed the image. Or proved unworthy of it. The image endures. Her enchantment never fades or fails, and he is never immune to it. She may not be for him the last wife or paramour, but she is the last dreamgirl.

About the Author A native Philadelphian, Shane Hayes earned his bachelor’s and his law degree from Villanova University, and studied for a year at Princeton Theological Seminary. He worked as a writer/editor for Prentice Hall and an attorney for the federal government. He is married, has four children, and lives in suburban Philadelphia. His nonfiction book The End of Unbelief: A New Approach to the Question of God was released by Leafwood Publishers in the fall of 2014. Two young men meet on ship when both are recently out of college. They share a flaming ambition. Each aims to write novels that will be internationally acclaimed and win him a place in American letters. One of them, Paul Theroux, achieves the dream in all its glory: becomes world famous, writes over 40 books, and three of his novels are made into films. The other, Shane Hayes, fails completely, but keeps tenaciously writing, decade after decade, plowing on through hundreds of rejections. Then almost half a century later, Shane contacts Paul, who remembers him, reads three of his books, likes them, and praises them with endorsements. In writing to agents and publishers Shane could now say, “Query for a novel praised by Paul Theroux.” No one offers a book deal because of an endorsement, so rejections keep coming. But more people let him send at least a sample and are predisposed to see merit in it. At his age, time is crucial. In the month he turns 75, Shane receives contracts on two of his books from different publishers. He will always be grateful to the literary giant who remembered ten days of friendship half-a-lifetime after it ended.

I wanted to feel so bad for Sandra and that just didn’t happen either. This book pulled me to places I wasn’t entirely comfortable with but somehow made it all good hearing the life happenings of the characters, making me see things that made me feel very different. All I really wanted was for everything to work out but knew it would never happen. I found this book to be very well written, the story pulling me in rapidly and making me see things, especially from Ollie’s point of view. I recommend it to lovers of suspense, and thrillers with psychological twists. This book does seem to have a dark side but I am willing to bet before you finish you will not see the dark any more except in some of the happenings in the character’s lives. I want to thank Mr. Hayes for allowing me to read and review his book, I enjoyed it and will look into any other works he has out. Four stars for The Last Dreamgirl.

I loved the suspense of it, but I would also say this was a soft thriller. You see three lives come together and how they became the people they were. It was hard to view Ollie as a bad guy. He was put through pure hell as a child. Either ignored or tortured by children his own age or even slightly younger. On top of his birth deformities, he also developed social anxiety, making it virtually impossible to communicate with people. After the death of both his parents, the only ones who truly cared and loved for Ollie, he decided to do something drastic to try to grasp love before his life if over.Sandra is also a social outcast. The awful home-life keeps her away from her classmates. The last thing that she wants is for someone to know her awful secret. Her only escape was in her books and her long walks at night with her dog. She never thought that anyone paid attention to her, so she never paid attention to her surroundings. That would be her downfall. Ollie pays attention to her and decides that Sandra will be his last dreamgirl brought to life.***Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock. ***

This is not your normal love story....by any means. This is an edge of your seat, psycho read.Ollie is a strange man with an unusual way to live his life or rather, end his life. He decides to "find" his dreamgirl. And to understand exactly what that means.....you must read the book! I am not giving away a spoiler. The way the author plays on the reader's sympathy for Ollie, is well played. What he does is wrong, but everyone with a heart, feels for him and his issues. This novel draws you in and keeps you tied up in knots all the way till the end.I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.
