By The Traveling Scholar This book defies easy categorization into one single genre. It’s really something unique. Revolving around a cast of main characters, it involves the characters’ romantic relationships, work conflicts, political intrigues, existential crises and some frank discussions between the characters about big problems facing America, like immigration, wars in the Middle East, and race relations in the year just before Obama’s election to the Presidency. The main characters ponder these issues about American society since September 11th in a way that does not come off as the author on a soapbox, but real conversations had by real characters that could be any of us. If there is an overall themes to the book its, “what do we do when we try hard to get what we desire, but it escapes us still…and how do you recognize your life’s purpose when you are living it?” Set in the year 2007, you get the sense that this is what we were right before everything changed. It’s a page-turner. You will relive past experiences as you reading this book from cover to cover. Make sure this book is in your collection and I recommend you buy your friend a copy too.
