Twice widowed, recently retired, and now an official senior citizen after turning 65, Rory Conner wants to take one last motorcycle journey across the USA. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Declining memory, but no loss of integrity By 30809 "Hope Bats Last" is the sixth installment of the Rory Connor series. Rory Connor, a retired detective and child protective services worker, takes the reader with him on a cross-country motorcycle adventure. As he encounters the early stages of dementia, he recognizes it is time to make the most of "being in the moment" and to be grateful for the exciting life he has lead. As in the earlier books, Rory experiences challenges, adventure, and even some romance as he maneuvers across the plains on a journey to visit his daughter in California. The story fully engages the reader as Rory does his best to hold true to his values in face of his declining memory. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that 65 years of living a life full of challenges has made Rory the kind of person we all strive to become: a person of integrity, authenticity, and commitment. I was surprised by the ending and had to take pause to ponder its implications. I suppose that will be the case for most readers. They will not be disappointed with the book. In fact, readers might share my opinion that the story would make a great screenplay. I hope we see that happen in the coming months.

By Corinna Underwood Having read the previous Rory Connor novels, I was excited to see this one finally released. I was not disappointed. Powers paints a vivid portrait of a man who is familiar with the many faces of death and is coming to terms with living with Alzheimer’s. Determined not to succumb to his failing memory Connor takes a cross-country road trip on his faithful Harley. When reading the story I felt as though I was riding along with him as he encountered each quirky character along the way. This is a poignant page turner with a very unexpected finale.
