Part fairy-tale, part magic, yet always savagely realistic Claire Fuller's haunting and powerful debut Our Endless Numbered Days will appeal to fans of Eowyn Ivey's The Snow Child and Christian Baker Kline's Orphan Train .

Peggy Hillcoat is eight years old when her survivalist father, James, takes her from their home in London to a remote hut in the woods and tells her that the rest of the world has been destroyed. Deep in the wilderness, Peggy and James make a life for themselves. They repair the hut, bathe in water from the river, hunt and gather food in the summers and almost starve in the harsh winters. They mark their days only by the sun and the seasons. When Peggy finds a pair of boots in the forest and begins a search for their owner, she unwittingly begins to unravel the series of events that brought her to the woods and, in doing so, discovers the strength she needs to go back to the home and mother she thought she’d lost. After Peggy's return to civilization, her mother learns the truth of her escape, of what happened to James on the last night out in the woods, and of the secret that Peggy has carried with her ever since.

Our Endless Numbered Days: A Novel, by Claire Fuller

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—In 1970s London, eight-year-old Peggy Hillcoat lives somewhat contentedly with her survivalist father and her concert pianist mother. When her mother goes on tour, her father abruptly kidnaps Peggy, taking her to a German forest. He claims that the world has ended and that her mother, along with every other human on Earth, has died. She resigns herself to a life in the cold, remote woods with her mentally unstable father, little food, and no medical care, not resurfacing until 1985. This is a dark but poignant coming-of-age story reminiscent of Geraldine McCaughrean's The White Darkness (HarperCollins, 2007). Told from the perspective of now 17-year-old Peggy, the narrative is lyrical and, aside from a slow start, well paced. British author Fuller's debut novel is solid and sets her firmly among her young adult author peers. VERDICT This gripping tale will be well received by fans of survivalist fiction and psychological thrillers.—Pilar Okeson, Allen-Stevenson School Library, New York City

Review "...the book is almost impossible to put down. Fuller weaves a hypnotic intensity of detail into her narrative that gives every lie the feel of truth, like the soundless piano with weighted keys that Peggy's father painstakingly crafts out of a plank pried loose from the cabin wall. She and her father sing the notes as she plays the silent instrument, reading from a piece of Ute's old sheet music. It's an elegant metaphor for the book's heartbreaking central question: What's worse — a mother's absence or a father's lies?"—The Chicago Tribune"Like Emma Donoghue's Room, Fuller's thoroughly immersive debut takes child kidnapping to a whole new level of disturbing. . . .Fuller alternates Peggy's time in the forest with chapters that take place [nine years later] in 1985 after she reunites with her mother—building an ever-present sense of foreboding and allowing readers to piece together well-placed clues."—Publishers Weekly"Fuller's compelling coming-of-age story, narrated from the perspective of Peggy's return to civilization, is delivered in translucent prose. [...] this is memorable first work from a talent to watch."—Kirkus"The saga of Peggy’s struggle in the face of prolonged trauma is vividly told, while Fuller’s careful pacing gradually reveals the mystery of a life that is as sympathetic as it is haunting."—Booklist"Standout debut [...] Don't let this gripping story pass you by."—Library Journal"A dark but poignant coming-of-age story."—School Library Journal, Starred Review"A post-apocalyptic debut with a twist. An obsessive survivalist abducts his daughter in this gripping family drama."—The Guardian"Our Endless Numbered Days is inspired by fairytales; the story’s menace is more Hansel and Gretel than that of a parent’s real-life horror story. Peggy, a young girl, is stolen away by her survivalist father to “die Hütte”, a ramshackle cottage in a European forest, and tells her that the end of the world has come, that her mother has died and they are the only survivors. [...] Fuller handles the tension masterfully in this grown-up thriller of a fairytale, full of clues, questions and intrigue."—The Times"Fuller evokes the natural world's beauty and brutality as her characters endure nine torrid years in the forest and the novel reaches a sinister conclusion."—The Independent"Claire Fuller’s bewitching debut takes us from the cosy confines of a London home to the dark heart of the forest, following the breadcrumb trail of eight-year-old Peggy Hillcoat. [...] Like all good fairy tales, this is a book filled with suspense and revelation, light and shadow and the overwhelming feeling that nothing is quite as it seems in the Hillcoats’ lives. It’s spellbinding, scary stuff."—The Sunday Express"It's simplicity is deceptive—the story is compelling and is driven with themes of control and endurance. And its ending's a jolter. A thoroughly brilliant and disturbing debut."—The Sunday Sport“[R]ealistic, harrowing, immersive and poetic. . . .Our Endless Numbered Days is an absorbing debut from a talented writer. Its ever-present sense of dread and compelling — but not always reliable — narrator make for a fast-paced, satisfying, page-turning read..."—Minneapolis Star Tribune"In this astonishing debut novel, Fuller succeeds on every level, from the aching, gorgeous sentences that make you stop, reread, repeat, to the plot twist that makes Gone Girl look like a plot-by-number stock formula. Peggy’s journey is an epic you’ll be replaying like a favorite song in your mind for weeks, and the ending deserves an extra hour blocked out for book club. An ovation-worthy triumph that is un-missable, inescapable, and unforgettable."—Bustle"...haunting, suspenseful and deftly written warning of the dangers of being led into the forest—and a memorably chilling first novel."—Metro"You don't really know what's going on in this surreal psychological thriller until the OMG-worthy denouement. [...] Prepare yourself."—Flare"Compulsive, charming, sinister...could well become a classic."—Stylist Magazine"As disturbing as it is at times delightful, and as beautiful as it is brutal, Our Endless Numbered Days should do for Claire Fuller what Room did for Emma Donoghue. It’s a darkly fantastic first novel I recommend you read immediately."—Tor.com"An astonishing debut. A beautifully crafted and intriguing story."—Litro"An auspicious debut, an unforgettable psychological thriller with one of the most haunting unreliable narrators I have ever encountered."—Largehearted Boy"This powerful debut novel explores the strength and resourcefulness of the human spirit when faced with unimaginable circumstances. . . . The descriptions transport the reader straight to the wilderness, from which they may never return. This novel will stay with the reader long after the last page is finished."—VOYA"Once I picked up the book, I couldn’t put it down."—Rosemary and Reading Glasses"It is only when Fuller, like a master magician, sweeps the cloak away in the final pages that we see how deftly she has rearranged the objects of Peggy’s life. And like any spellbound audience, we are left shocked and surprised."—Gilmore Guide to Books"Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller is an illuminating, devastating and completely unforgettable début novel. Highly recommended."—Pamreader"Flitting between Peggy's past and present, Fuller's denouement is perfectly planned, parting the curtains with mathematical precision until the suspicious reader's jaw drops in horror."—We Love This Book"So much of the initial press on this book uses words like 'haunting,' 'beautiful,' 'breathtaking,' and normally that kind of hype makes me cringe. But it’s all true. Our Endless Numbered Days is all of those things, and more. You’ll ache for Peggy, and the way she’s been deluded, especially when everything is revealed at the end of the story. All I’ll say is: plot twist. You won’t be disappointed."—Keysmash"Our Endless Numbered Days is a dark novel of the most enjoyable kind and, at the time of writing, the best book I’ve read this year."—Shiny New Books"Claire Fuller is a truly exceptional writer, and this book is quite unforgettable."—Being Anne"Graciously written and capriciously imagined, Our Endless Numbered Days holds up a magnifying lens to the human spirit and deftly captures both its fragility and its resilience. The brilliant ending, like the best endings do, casts new light on all that comes before it." —Cathy Marie Buchanan, author of The Painted Girls"I finished this book and turned right back to the first page to start it again. Like the wilderness into which Claire Fuller's characters disappear, Our Endless Numbered Days is rigged with barbs and poisons, tricks and tragedies. It's weird and wild and sometimes terrifying, but it's also beautiful and heartbreaking and breathlessly alive."—Amy Stewart, author of New York Times Bestseller The Drunken Botanist"This young girl’s harrowing experience growing up in the wilderness and living only with her father establishes that what’s more terrifying than the perils of nature is being made captive by the ideals of one’s parents. The lasting impression of Our Endless Numbered Days, which gracefully seesaws back and forth between two different time periods, however, is not one of how horrid an experience can be, but how resourceful and resilient the human psyche can become in order to survive. Fuller eschews the conventional means of providing labored explanations of emotions, and in its place deftly relies on the power of description to invoke genuine feeling. The result is beautiful. It will keep you turning the pages, and long afterwards it will keep you turning over in your mind the events in this haunting story."—Yannick Murphy, author of The Call and This Is the Water"Our Endless Numbered Days is suspenseful, utterly riveting, and as dark as midnight in the forest."—Rebecca Hunt, author of Everland and Mr. Chartwell"[Our Endless Numbered Days] is indeed a remarkable first novel, I was much impressed by the conviction of the child's eye view, the vivid climate and the power of the narrative."—Penelope Lively, author of Dancing Fish and Ammonites"Disturbing, poignant, compelling, beautiful — these are just a few words that come to mind when describing Claire Fuller's debut novel, Our Endless Numbered Days. In 1970s London, eight-year-old Peggy Hillcoat lives with her concert pianist mother, Ute, and her father, James, an obsessive survivalist. After months of training and drills, James takes Peggy away to live alone with him in the forest, telling her that the rest of the world has been destroyed. Fuller's striking prose and description of Peggy's ordeal and resilience results in a page-turner that is hard to put down. Rarely has a novel captured our attention so fully and immediately..."—Powell's Books

It's one of my new favorite books.Peggy Hillcoat, an 8-year-old girl, is taken away from her home by her father one day. He tells her that the world has ended and that the rest of her family is dead. They are the only two people in the world left. They live together off of very little in a completely rundown cabin in the woods. When she finally comes back to her mother nine years later, they both discover the truth about what happened out there in the wilderness and back home before they left. The characters and the world that they build for themselves is so vivid. A story about two people alone in the woulds could easily become boring and get bogged down by details about surviving with very little (though I do love those kinds of details). Their situation shone, because we learned so much about them, their relationships with each other, and their previous relationships with people like Peggy's mother as time goes on. Both Peggy and her father are still wrapped up in the past and their own dreams, that they get very involved in certain projects like building Peggy a noiseless piano. It takes them a while to really learn how to take care of themselves and each other. But something is very clearly changing in her father. And once Peggy discovers a pair of boots in the woods, everything starts to unravel and fall apart.I loved that the book jumped back and forth between Peggy's time as an adult back home with her mother and when she is a child with her father. The tension that's created is superb and everything is revealed with expert timing. I was too absorbed in the story to even think once about what Fuller was slowly doing. This is a very quick, dark, and heart-wrenching read. Fuller's prose is absolutely exquisite. At so many chapter endings I felt completely blown away and ready to race into the next chapter. Her writing and pacing sucked me in entirely. I couldn't stop reading. And it's not a thriller or a mystery, really. It is well-written, unnerving literary fiction that feels absolutely human and real. And, wow, what an ending.

By Scarlet Aingeal I received a free copy of Our Endless Numbered Days from the publisher in return for an honest review.I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, the premise caught my attention and it turned out to be a pretty intense and vivid read. The story is told completely from the main character Peggy's point of view and is split into two different intertwining storylines: the summer of 1976 when her father takes her away from all she knows, and 1985 when she's older and has returned home. Peggy's character was written extremely well, it was full of depth with an innocence that draws you in, you can't help but feel for her and become attached to her character.I was impressed by the writing style. The way the author dropped subtle hints that sparked the imagination without actually detailing what was occurring, was cleverly done. A lot was left to the readers imagination when it came to the pain and suffering of the characters in the book, filling in those blanks allows the reader to paint as grim a situation as their imagination allows. At the time of reading the story I wasn't really aware of this, it wasn't until I had finished that I realised how cleverly the author had manipulated my imagination and my experience of the story. The way the author builds the world and scenery in the story was also done very well. The descriptions and scenes were very easy to visualise. The author immerses the reader in a way that makes you feel like you are there with the characters, surrounded by all the trees and part of the story. Our Endless Numbered Days is not a feel good read, it's raw, it's intense but at the same time there are moments of innocence, hope and happiness and you'll find yourself thinking about the story long after you have finished the book.

She has to practice packing a rucksack and being ready to flee in minutes in case the need arises. Peggy’s mother is a renowned pianist from Germany who tolerates her husband and her friends. But when Peggy’s father tells her to pack her bags one day and they set off from their home in London, she doesn’t know that home will become a remote cottage in the German wilderness and that she won’t see her mother or civilization again for another nine years.Together, Peggy and her father survive by trapping forest animals, growing vegetables and making do with the few things they found in the cabin and they brought with them. Peggy believes the world outside has ended, and they are the only two people left alive. Her father’s deteriorating mental condition forces a series of events that eventually conclude with her return from the woods.Told from Peggy’s point of view as a 17 year old recovering from her ordeal and an eight year old experiencing it, Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller is lyrical and heartbreaking and complicated. Peggy’s point of view as a child is superbly captured. Believing her mother and everyone else in the world dead, she trusts her father completely and depends upon him for survival. Yet readers know Peggy leaves the woods for some reason, and the mystery compels the story forward.Fuller’s descriptions of the forest are vivid and she lets her characters show themselves through small and big actions that bring them fully to life. Despite my skepticism that anywhere in Germany is remote enough (or was in the 1970s and 80s when the story takes place) for there to be no evidence of life outside the clearing (not even an airplane overhead?), I found the story compelling. And while I would have liked to know more about how Peggy reacted to and dealt with her growing body and the changes that puberty brought, I found it a poignant and thought-provoking tale exposing the vulnerability and trust children must place in their parents for their own survival and what happens when that trust is breached. The publisher provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

In A Time of Magic is a tale of wildness, transformation and sexuality. On the tranquil Gulf Island of Vasquez, off the coast of BC, Ryan and Selene struggle to meet the challenges of returning to the land, opening to love, experimenting with sexuality, and learning from ancient spiritual traditions. Through exquisite description, the author captures the magical natural beauty of the island that shapes their transformation. This story will speak to anyone who has ever wondered what it would be like if they didn’t have to follow the rules. In a Time of Magic explores the sexual, spiritual and ecological sensibilities of the seventies, a time of experimentation with mind altering drugs and open relationships. A time out of which came—through emulation or avoidance—much of what we value today. Ryan having recently graduated from university is caught up in the back to the land movement and learning to live on a small homestead. On a trip to Vancouver Island he meets Selene, a smart, beautiful, astrologer who is travelling north to Canada in her old Hillman Minx. When they get snowed in together, she turns Ryan’s world upside down, introducing him to a magical, rather that logical, way of living in the world. Their life together is beautiful and Edenic at first, but becomes increasingly complicated as Selene pushes the boundaries of their relationship. Torn between his desire to support her freedom and his fear of losing her, Ryan begins his slow transformation. Several months after Selene leaves the island, Ryan gets together with Maya. In the midst of this new relationship, Selene re-enters Ryan’s life in a surprising way. Later in life, with the fire and confusion of youth long behind them, Selene and Ryan meet again and learn where there lives and beliefs have taken them.

Video stores are dying. But most of you don’t care. You’ve got your Netflix and your DVR, so why deal with VHS tapes or scratched DVDs? Why deal with the grumpy guy at the worn-down independent video store? That grumpy guy is Waring Wax, and he’s usually too drunk to worry about his declining business at Star Video, let alone his quickly evolving extinction in popular culture. But everything changes in his small college town when a bright and shiny Blockbuster Video opens nearby: Clearly, this means war. So, Waring enlists the help of his two reluctant employees, charismatic but conflicted Alaura and desperate virgin Jeff, to hatch a series of wild schemes to save their little store. Together, these three misfits try to save Star Video while confronting, among other things, Waring’s self-destructive tendencies, a life training cult, corporate bicycle gangs, and a Hollywood director who constantly sees the ghost of Alfred Hitchcock. The Last Days of Video is a hilarious elegy for a bygone era, a quirky and charming story of redemption for a group of loveable cinema freaks, and a love letter to the art of the movies.

The Last Days of Video: A Novel, by Jeremy Hawkins

Review "The Last Days of Video is a warm bucket of popcorn. Sit back, put your feet up and enjoy."—3G1B"For those who love film and talking about film, The Last Days of Video will be a joyride. For those who miss the independent video store, or for those who are still lucky enough to have one around the corner, this book will be a joy ride."—Bookslut“The Last Days of Video is smart and snarky and in the end downright sweet. Waring and Alaura and Jeff are all solid characters we root for and want to follow home. This book made me miss my snobby old store in Ithaca, and my Betamax. It’s a feast for the cinephile. Well done.” —Stewart O’Nan, author of West of Sunset"Charming and fun, The Last Days of Video is a great debut."—BookRiot"[R]eading this book feels like sharing an inside joke with the author....This book hilariously takes on today’s culture, both embracing and mocking its often conflicting ideals of nostalgia and progress.”—ABA Bookselling This Week"...what sets this debut novel apart is how Hawkins effortlessly reveals the inner workings of his characters....The novel is riddled with film references and easily lambastes the sneering superiority of cinephiles, while still preserving a sense of wonder for the magic of movies. The Last Days of Video is an unapologetic, quirky, and surprisingly moving elegy for the passing of the local rental hangouts." —Booklist"The author has a good time gently poking fun at the video-store culture that produced Quentin Tarantino." — Publishers Weekly"…funny, surprisingly tender debut novel,…he characters have enough heart and vivid imperfections to make their story irresistibly engaging…They careen from one encounter to another, propelled by a generous dose of nostalgia, loud humor and narrative energy, but they're given the depth to make casually beautiful phrases ring true.… A novel that manages to be both very funny and very sad, with an unrepentant belief in both movies and love served with a cleverness and irreverence that are difficult to resist." —Kirkus, Starred Review"The Last Days of Video is, as the title suggests, an elegy for an era, but it's an era that's going out with a lot of kicking and screaming. Funny, raucous, and deliciously irreverent, Jeremy Hawkins' debut novel offers up an engaging cast of characters who bicker and lust and love their way through the roller coaster ride of Star Video's final days. This generous, big-hearted novel is a joy to read." —Ben Fountain, author of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk"This is the Lucky Jim of video store novels. A comic page-turner—often really funny—with an originality and tenderness not often seen in first novels." —Clyde Edgerton, author of Killer Diller“This hilarious novel manages to love, dissect, and make fun of our culture all at once. Jeremy Hawkins' particular genius is in understanding that people are never more sympathetic than when they aren't getting what they want. This whole book is saturated in loss, and yet I laughed through every page.” —Rebecca Lee, author of Bobcat and Other Stories“This is a wonderful book! I laughed at least once a page. And the characters are so fresh and sad and eager. This book should be put in a time capsule. The Last Days of Video is like the literary missing link, about a time when things were really real." —Daniel Wallace, author of Big Fish and The Kings and Queens of Roam

About the Author Jeremy Hawkins earned an MFA in Fiction from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He is the founder and lead editor of The Distillery (distilleryediting.com), a web-based editing service. This novel is quirky, bawdy, at times irreverent--and totally engaging. You WANT to know how this story will end. Your film acumen will be tested--will you know all the references? Does it really matter? Not one bit. The characters are endearing though often perplexing, but you'll root for them and you'll want them to win in the end. It is not hard to see that the small independent stores--video, book, grocery--are being challenged by big box stores. And yet, there's something so endearing about the mom-and-pop stores filled with owners and clerks that LOVE what they are doing. The Last Days of Video is a tribute, a kind of love story, to that part in all of us that wants to keep things small, intimate, and genuine.

Nostaglia Inducer For The Ages By Brian Gagnon The Last Days Of Video (To give away the what and why of the title requires spoilers.) deals with a Cheers-like cast of characters (i.e. Waring Wax, who is well-known as the perpetually angry drunkard who spends his days in his loft dubbed "The African Queen", Aluara, the store manager who has dreams and likes of her own that may surprise even her closest friends, Jeff, the new store clerk and film buff who just may find some meaning to life etc.) and places them in a video store setting. A setting that is being threatened with deal revocations from uptight Christian distributors, competition from jerkass "ex-customers" who have a problem with paying their late fees, a gang of overly trim bicycle-riding hoodlums who just love making trouble from Waring, and there's Blockbuster. Yes, that store. It opened in town not far from Star Video and plans on taking down from Star Video. Not if Waring has anything to say about it. Marvelous first story from Jeremy Hawkins.

In other words: a great read! If you love movies, you'll enjoy the commentary on movies in general and specific films. If you like seeing characters find themselves and grow, you'll love the arcs of the main characters in this novel.

Port Abundance: A Voyage of Self-discovery, by J. F. Tallon

Review "Like any ideal journey, this book is both enjoyable and enriching. There is some very powerful stuff woven into the fabric of this charmingly written story; and just as with the magical Irish region where the adventure unfolds, as satisfying as the trip is, youll feel compelled to come back, knowing there is so much more to explore" -- Brad Yates, author of "Wizards Wish" & "Freedom at Your Fingertips"

About the Author Finbar Tallon was born in Dublin. He went to sea with Irish Shipping Ltd as an apprentice deck officer and graduated as a Master Mariner. On his 30th birthday he started a new career in Project Management in Subsea engineering living in the Far East. In Singapore he had a major life changing experience when he was tasked to escort a ‘lost soul’ home across the veil. The impact of this experience led him to study the complementary aspects of the ‘Hidden side of Life’ and it is from this background that Port Abundance was written. Finbar lives with his wife Vanessa in his own Port Abundance in beautiful Glandore in SW Ireland. Glandore translates from the Irish as Harbour of Gold. The entrance to the Glandore is guarded by the two islands synchronistically called Adam and Eve. The Admiralty Sailing Directions advise the mariner to ‘Avoid Adam and Hug Eve’.

If the thought of vacationing with your parents makes you cringe, fear no more! Help is here!

Planes, Canes, and Automobiles: Connecting with Your Aging Parents through Travel is a gold mine of practical advice, funny anecdotes, and tales of triumphs and travails from Val Grubb, who has traveled more than 300,000 miles (and counting!) with her 84-year-old mother in the past twenty years.

When planning a recent trip overseas, however, Grubb realized that her mom's physical and mental capabilities had suddenly changed. Her mom now needed a wheelchair, for example, and was afraid to travel alone (even on short flights to meet her daughter for a long trip together). Grubb set out to find suggestions for handling these changes and after much research was struck by the lack of comprehensive information that shed light on the nuances of globetrotting with aging parents.

Planes, Canes, and Automobiles is the go-to guide for adult children: it combines her wisdom from years of traveling with her own aging mother with sensible tips, checklists, and sample itineraries to help readers plan and enjoy a vacation with their parents!

Planes, Canes, and Automobiles: Connecting with Your Aging Parents through Travel, by Valerie M. Grubb

Review Grubb has written a guide specifically for adult children who are planning on, or have always wanted to, travel with their aging parents. This is a book full of warmth and love...[and a] wealth of information, tips, and practical suggestions based on personal experience on how to plan, survive, and enjoy taking trips with one's parents as they age. The valuable appendixes, with sample packing lists, itineraries, and resources, are reason enough to explore this book, and Grubbs's honest discussions of the ups and downs of traveling with her mom gives the narrative a human touch. VERDICT: A solid choice for anyone looking for ways to involve their parents in their journeys. ---LibraryJournal''...a delightful guide full of important information for those of us who want to enjoy the companionship of our best travel partners, our parents.'' --Samantha Brown, Television Travel Host & AARP Travel Ambassador

''Planes, Canes, and Automobiles is frank, funny, and truly one of a kind.'' --Paula Froelich, Editor in Chief, Yahoo! Travel

''I know first-hand the joy that can be found in traveling with your parent. I traveled with my own mother all the way through her 80's and we created priceless memories that I will hold with me forever. Planes, Canes and Automobiles would have been a great resource for me during my travels.... Valerie Grubb shares what she has learned about how to make your travels with your loved one as smooth as possible.'' -- Joan Lunden, award-winning journalist, best-selling author, caregivers advocate and spokeswoman for A Place for Mom

''...Valerie's love and respect for her mother and Dorothy's for her shine through every page of this delightful, eminently useful book. A must-read for anyone planning a multigenerational vacation or a trip with older parents.'' --Nancy Parode, Senior and Baby Boomer Travel Expert and writer for About.com

''My trip to Normandy, France last year with my 85-year-old father and 91-year-old uncle was a deeply emotional journey, made immensely more satisfying because we followed Grubb's insightful advice from day one.'' --Deb Wood, Collections Manager, Stranahan House Museum and Avid Traveler

''As a wheelchair user for over seven years, my family and I have personally used many of Valerie's recommendations in our travels. More importantly, I have shared her insight with new wheelchair users as educational material for Able Challenger. When it comes to travel for those with mobility restrictions, Planes, Canes, and Automobiles is the best resource available.'' -- --John Berkey, management consultant and co-founder of Able Challenger

About the Author Valerie Grubb's father was a pilot, so she was born with travel in her blood. She began traveling solo at the tender age of four (when she wandered out of eyesight of her house one day), and since then she has continued to make exploring the world a priority while pursuing careers in both operations management and executive coaching. Val and her mom, Dorothy, took their first overseas vacation together when Dorothy was sixty-four, and in the more than twenty years since then, they have logged over 300,000 miles (and counting!). In response to the lack of available resources on the subject of seniors traveling with their adult children, Val began publishing Travel with Aging Parents (travelwithagingparents.com) in 2013, a blog that chronicles the triumphs (and challenges) of intergenerational travel with Val's signature ''you-can-do-this'' flair.

There is nothing else like it out there, and yet it's such an important niche in the travel book market. I was able to get an advance copy, which I read right before taking a road trip with my parents, including my 90 year old father. I found this book to be invaluable for my trip. It helped with practical tips on packing, using wheelchairs, handling medicine and dealing with other stressors that can pop up. And the bonus is that the author is funny, and really...isn't a reminder to maintain your sense of humor the best tip of all?! Thank you Valerie Grubb for writing this great book.PS - The book ends with checklists, additional resources and actual itineraries of trips you can take with your aging parents. Extremely user friendly!

Not just a "how to" book but rather one filled with personal memories and travels with a parent By Brice What a delightful read for anyone looking to travel with aging adults. Even though I am not able to travel with my own parents, I learned some very useful tips that will help me when traveling with my aunt and uncle and even my husband (who doesn’t travel much). The author’s great sense of humor when describing her travels with her mother made the book more of a story than a how to. She will have no regrets about wishing she would have taken more time with her mom. She has taken the time to make every traveling event special and in doing so has created some very happy memories that will be with her forever.I would highly recommend this book to others who are considering traveling with an aging adult.

15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. FRIEND OR FOE !!! By jlswainsboro/Judy Lewis Great balls of fire! I love it! Disillusioned is the second book in the Swept Away Series by J.S. Cooper and it totally blew my mind!!! Cooper has outdone herself again and delivered an explosive and masterful continuation of her Swept Away Series. She continues to tantalize, tease and dazzle us with her exceptional talent, amazing skill, incredible imagination and unique style. In the first book of the Swept Away series, she laid the groundwork for an intricate web of romance, mystery and suspense with an assortment of characters that are fascinating and intriguing. They come to life and jump off the page. This story captures and holds you from beginning to end. I was totally enthralled! Now, she continues this intriguing story with Book 2, Disillusioned. It is exciting, dark, powerful, suspenseful, mysterious, compelling, thrilling, witty, riveting, enticing, arousing, romantic, and sensual. The dialogue is smart, snappy, sassy, well written, at times humorous and flows effortlessly. The characters are interesting, fascinating, captivating, intriguing, engaging and sexy as sin. A wonderfully written dark tale of danger, murder, deception, betrayal, suspense, kidnapping, romance and dare I say, possibly redemption? Bianca London suddenly finds herself kidnapped, tied up, in the dark, in the trunk of a moving car with an unknown man. What the heck? This was bad-very very bad! Surely it couldn't get much worse! Wrong! It does get worse, much worse when she awakens on an unknown beach of a deserted island with the same sexy man. Except, he isn't actually a stranger. Bianca did meet him once, very briefly, in a coffee shop. But she doesn't even know his name - until now. Steve has disappeared and Jakob and Biana have finally been rescued from the island and are now in a hotel - together. Hmmm......She finally knows he is Jakob Bradley - or is he? She overhears Jakob on the phone and discovers that he not only knew Steve, but also the kidnappers. What? She now knows Jakob, the man she trusted to protect her, gave her body to and even allowed him to make love to her, has been lying from the beginning. She has given herself to him, mind, body and heart, put her trust in him and he has betrayed her! Oh my glory! Bianca has to decide if the handsome Jakob Bradley is friend or foe but she must remember her Father's words - "Friends can be foes and foes can be friends". Who's a girl to trust? Will Bianca ever be able to discover the truth of this charade around her and unravel the mystery of her mother's death? And who is sending her all those darn cryptic letters? Let the games begin!!! I don't believe in giving spoilers but I will say this - Beautiful naIve history major-check! Mysterious, handsome, alpha male-check! Cast of suspicious characters-check! Danger, suspense, betrayal, unknown enemies and surprising plot twists at every twist and turn-check! Romance, angst and sex-you betcha! Oh my! It kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! I can hardly wait for Resolution, Book 3 of the Swept Away Series! Kudos, Ms. Cooper! You have delivered another winner! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. a beautifully dark and brilliantly complex journey of two people whose lives are inexplicably and irrevocably entwined By Shadowplay Disillusioned is the continuation of the delightfully intriguing and deliciously suspense story that was started in Illusion. We walk a little further down the rabbit hole and discover that nothing is as it seems. Just when things start to become clear is about the time when the details become hazy and get lost in a swirling hurricane of confusion and lies. The most important thing to remember is that while your heart may seem treacherous, it could actually be your saving grace. The mind can be easily distracted by sleight of hand and carefully crafted Illusion, but the heart can see beyond the madness and the manipulation into the very hidden and very dangerous truth that alludes us. This is a beautifully dark and brilliantly complex journey of two people whose lives are inexplicably and irrevocably entwined. There is no separating them from their past, but the truth of their past has been hidden so deeply that discovering it may cost them more than they are prepared to pay.Bianca thinks that she has discovered some answers to her questions. She thinks she now knows who systematically destroyed her family and her life, and takes steps to finally embrace that truth no matter how much it tears her heart to shreds. What she doesn’t know is that what she has found out is just the tip of this illusive and deadly iceberg. While the truth sets you free, she feels like her chains have only tightened and secured themselves more firmly around her squeezing the very breath from her lungs. Jakob may have inadvertently showed part of his hand to Bianca, but there is so much more that he is hiding and in search of at the same time. He wants to unearth the truth, but his heart is utterly torn in keeping Bianca safe at the same time. Will Jakob abandon Bianca for the ultimate search for the truth of his past, or will he finally take hold of his deepest desires and protect her even from himself?I am pleasantly astonished and completely breathless as I am still trying to digest the wonder and mystery of this twisted and intriguing story. To say that I loved it would be the understatement of the year. While I know I should be extremely weary of Jakob, but I can’t help but feel that he is just as lost as Bianca amidst all of this madness. His way of dealing with this insanity is different than her, but he can’t deny what he has found in her. They both discover that there is much more to each other than even they could have ever imagined. Bianca is desperate for help in figuring out this coleuses secret that is her past, and her heart won’t let her deny the love that Jackob has for her. She finds an unexpected peace and encouragement from him, and together they are determined to uncover that which has been stolen from them. Impatiently, I want for the next part of this amazing journey, and anxiously await to find out what horrors they are about to unearth. With each book written by J. S. Cooper that I read, I am utterly sure that she is an absolute genius who has captured my heart and soul piece by piece. Her characters are breathtakingly and possess a quiet inner strength that shines brightly when life gets hard. The worlds she creates are mesmerizing and exquisite, and I can never get enough of them. This series has stolen my heart, and truthfully I don’t want it back. I just want to find out every delectable detail and enjoy the emotions that both bleed and fly off the pages right into the depths of my very soul.

I loved it cause it had me hooked from the start of the book to the end. The author did a wonderful job with this book . I think now that I may just need to get book 1 just to see if I am correct on what I think may have happened before they got off the island and started trying to figure out who was doing what to whom and why. Nice job J. S. Cooper your book had me hooked for sure.

God Ain't Through Yet, by Mary Monroe

From Publishers Weekly Monroe tacks on another witty and wise installment to her God series (God Ain't Blind; etc.), picking up after Annette Davis's disastrous affair with a con man. This time out, Annette's long-suffering perfect husband, Pee Wee, turns the tables and dumps Annette for his barbershop's manicurist, Lizzie Stovall. Annette feels especially betrayed because she'd helped Lizzie, a former classmate, get that job. But life must go on, and after Lizzie and Pee Wee move in together, Annette embarks on a questionable affair with an old flame and worries about her 11-year-old daughter, who's growing up way too fast. Also making waves is Jade Marie, whose marriage to milquetoast LaVerne takes a shocking turn. If this raunchy and rambunctious book is any indication, Monroe's series has a lot of life left in it. I was lucky enough to be chosen to have an advance read of this book prior to publication release. Mary has delivered again! I stayed up late on day two because I had to see if Annette and Pee Wee got back together! I guess you will have to read it yourself to find out. If you read the "God Aint" books you know Jade needs a beat down....well aint nothing changed. I have to say there are some scenes and I mean I was LOL and hollering and they were the funniest ever! Juat wait until you read this book. Oh lawd that book was good. I could not put it down. I would have gotten finished quicker if I had more time! I hate finishing so quick because now I have to wait longer for the next one! The way Mary describes scenes, people and emotions are the best ever. The characters conversations are so colorful and funny. I swear I laugh so much and am amazed at some of them. The comments Scary Makes are so darn funny. I swear I want to meet her! HA! You must get this book! You will not be disappointed. It's a must add to your collection.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. God Ain't Through Yet By Gratiot5 I truly loved it! God Ain't Through Yet was a a real page-turner, and a fantastic read. This book took Annette, Pee Wee, Rhoda and Jade exactly where I need them to be. Annette got paid back for cheating on her husbhand Pee Wee; Pee Wee cheated on Annette partially as pay back, but emotionally he needed to find if the grass was greener on the other side and if an exotic flavor was what was missing in his life. Jade, bless her sick phycotic soul, was finally on the receiving end of torment and pain, if only briefly. I re-read her beat-down 3-times because it was long overdue and it felt dam good. As usual, she bounced back because that is what the "Bride of Satan", (as Annette called her), has to do until she's medicated, locked up, or stopped permanently. Her 5-time murderess Mama Rhoda, should have had her head examined a long time ago. Lil' Charlotte also has the makings to become a lil Bitch. I look forward to her antics in future books. I love the way Mary Monroe weaves the story and the characters togther. They feel so real, and so believable. I could not put this book down. I finished it in 2 days, and now feel the need to re-read it, to better digest the characters. I can't wait to find out what Mary Monroe and "God" are working on next.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. God Ain't Through Yet By Michelle Mary Monroe has returned with another great book in the "God" series. Annette Goode-Davis is back fresh off her sordid affair in the previous book and with a new body courtesy of her weight loss!! Only this time Annette is in for a shock when her long time husband PeeWee leaves her for "Little Leg" Lizzie, an old schoolmate of theirs. Annette flashes back and explains how that fateful day in her kitchen occurred when PeeWee and Lizzie announced he was leaving Annette; and Annette proceeded to "whoop" some behinds (lol). Then Annette brings us to the present and how she is coping with PeeWee leaving, his new woman and her new "man". Then there is her ongoing battle with Rhoda's evil daughter Jade and her own pre-teen daughter Charlotte is getting a little wild. Annette has a lot of drama on her hands! This story is filled with humor and colorful characters such as my personal fave "Scary" Mary the old madam with bad make up and a crooked wig (LMAO), Annette's fiesty Muh'Dear, "Little Leg" Lizzie and the always intersting Rhoda and Jade. This book was great and I look forward to more from Mary Monroe!!

If you want to keep track of much more, then this is not the book for you. I wanted something simple, and I found it. The label comes right off so no one has to know what it is for.

I write in this book every night and still track my WW points in it. I love it so much that I purchased 2 more so I have enough for the full year.

She was looking for something with all of this features this book has. While I wish it was just a little bit smaller, it seemed pretty good and she was thrilled with it.
