Usually it's other people's lives that are a mess. But when successful divorce lawyer JB's best friend dies, he finds his own world in turmoil. Suddenly, he must reexamine years of choices -- and one big secret. Card Game follows JB and his band of poker playing brothers from their first game in a 1970's suburban Maryland basement through their most memorable good and bad bets and wins and losses, as the men gather at a funeral to reflect on everything that they've faced together, and, even more importantly, all that they have not. Card Game brings to life an era of prank phone calls and fake IDs, unsupervised boys' nights out, and moments of head-shaking depravity, even as it tells the story of what happens when these boys grow up. A funny, poignant, and at times painful meditation on death, lifelong friendships, and honesty, Card Game is as irreverent as it is heartfelt. About the Author David Bulitt was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland. A father of four and a divorce lawyer for more than twenty-five years, he lives in Olney, Maryland, with his wife, Julie, their youngest daughter, and two dogs. He still plays cards with his buddies every month.

Review From: Life and The Single Parent Magazine, April, 2016BOOK REVIEW - CARD GAMEIt is always a challenge to review an author's first novel. Often, this initial attempt at putting pen to paper heralds not just a beginning but also possibly an end to a literary career. After reading David Bulitt's CARD GAME, it is obvious that this author has a gift. I look forward to making all of his work part of my library.CARD GAME chronicles the lives of a closely-knit group of poker playing friends. Close friends that regularly get together not only to play cards but also to share experiences as they grow from boys into men. From a game that starts while attending a suburban Maryland high school, the route takes the reader on a more than thirty-year journey. Along the way, we get a close and sometimes poignant look at a few sexual experiences, pranks, career and family development. Eventually, the reader is made to feel a part of the group as the boys are forced to face the profound effects caused by the unexpected death of one of the group.Successful authors have different interest producing talents- mystery, romance, and violence, to name a few. Bulitt in CARD GAME has found a way to make you laugh, to make you cry, and most of all to make you anxious to read whatever next comes from his talented pen. ●lifeandthesingleparent.com

The story telling was amazing and I could relate to all the characters. It seemed that most of them had similar qualities as some of the guys I hung around with. At times the book was laugh out loud funny and at other times it was very sad and brutally honest. I especially liked, and could relate to, the stories of JB and his many trips with the Boys. The card game was not always exciting but it was the glue that held this interesting group together in good times and especially in bad. The book was not only entertaining and an easy read, but I guarantee you will experience the full range of emotions before you finish. I look forward to more books in the future from my new favorite author.

Each character is developed in such away that you are made to feel that you are a part of the card game-you are one of the guys or ladies. You laugh and cry as the words are read. What an unbelievable story line!!! I could not put the book down. I cannot wait to see the next book that David Bulitt publishes.

By Nadia McIlhany I got this book a while ago because it was written by a high school classmate and I like to support people with whom I have some connection. I figured this would be a good vacation at the beach read. And I was right. I thoroughly enjoyed the story - the flash backs to places I knew while growing up - the true friendships that came out in the story telling - the ups and downs that make life real. I'm looking forward to David's next book.
