RELIEF IN JUST 21 DAYS!

Eighty percent of people will suffer from back pain at some point in their life, and many suffer for far too long.  This is a statistic that can be changed. Three Weeks to a Better Back is the key to giving all types of back pain sufferers relief―in just 21 days!

Our doctors are missing the cause of our back pain―and that’s because they are only treating the back.  The Sinett Solution lies in a revolutionary concept:  It’s Not Your Back.  Yes, that’s right. For the majority of sufferers, the problem is not in the back!  It’s caused by imbalance in the core, feet, hips, neck and jaw and most unexpectedly, by diet (even a healthy one!) and stress.

The explanation is simple. Your body is comprised of a group of systems that are interconnected, and at the center of those systems is the spine.  A problem in one area therefore almost always affects the back. An inflamed stomach, for instance, radiates pain into the back. Sitting on your wallet throws off your hips, which compromises the spine.  Stress lives in the muscles of the jaw, neck and shoulders, creating tension and tightness in the back.

Three Weeks to a Better Back offers a simple three-pronged, three week approach to treating back pain. Dr. Sinett helps you figure out what kind of back pain sufferer you are and determines the source of your pain through his Back Pain Inflammation quiz, allowing you to arrive at a proper diagnosis. He then provides you with easy-to-follow tools for a customized treatment plan, including stretches, ergonomics and structural care for all parts of the body, as well as a No More Back Pain Diet featuring delicious recipes and Enerchi techniques to help you cope with both daily and chronic stressors and negative emotions. With quick healthcare tips that you can adapt into your daily routine, Three Weeks to a Better Back is your total-body prescription for a back pain-free life.

3 Weeks To A Better Back: Solutions for Healing the Structural, Nutritional, and Emotional Causes of Back Pain (The Sinett Solution), by Todd Sinett

Review

Chiropractor Sinett offers a clearly written guide to his profession’s perspective on relieving back pain. His version of this approach, the “Sinett Solution,” is a three-part method, which treats structural, digestive, and emotional issues separately. The book consists of four sections, the first devoted to determining which categories of back pain apply, as well as reasons why previous treatments might have failed, such as incorrect diagnoses. In section two, Sinett delves into structural causes, distinguishing between localized issues where the problem is at the site of pain, and compensatory issues involving a “global spinal reaction” (as is often the case, in his opinion.) For remedies, Sinett includes detailed pictures of stretches and correct posture. Section three evaluates the effect of poor digestive function and provides dietary advice for eating well, complete with shopping lists and menus. The final section examines how emotional conflict and pressures can cause stress to manifest as back pain and includes relaxation exercises and “laws” for taking care of one’s emotional health. Sinett has provided back-pain sufferers with a thoughtful and thorough approach to improving their health, in both body and mind.

A practical guide to the innovative Autism Movement Therapy ® (AMT) approach - structured movement and music classes designed to stimulate the brain, aid sensory processing and decrease problem behaviours in children with autism spectrum disorders.

Reflecting a growing interest in the body-brain connection, and incorporating the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, the AMT approach uses music and movement to develop audio, visual, gross motor and spatial awareness skills in children with autism. The book breaks down the components of the typical 45 minute session, from circle games to story dances, and explains how the reader can create their own AMT program.

This exciting new approach will complement other therapeutic techniques for children on the autism spectrum and can be used by a wide range of professionals, such as teachers, arts therapists and dance instructors, as well as parents and carers.

The art of dance is for everyone By Always Be Dancing I have been teaching youth of all ages and abilities to dance flamenco and practice yoga for 20 years and I so appreciate Joanne Lara and Keri Bowers’ Autism Movement Therapy Method. They have laid out a very practical approach to teaching dance technique and choreography to people on the autism spectrum that is fun, empowering and fully sensory integrated. AMTM helps to develop essential social and emotional skills along with memory retention, focus, relaxation and the physical skills such as coordination and rhythm. Through the dance classes, which create a community of inclusion, the students experience positive social interactions, leading to increased self-esteem, better emotional control and an overall sense of belonging and pride. The book is well laid out with easy to follow instructions and the key skills being taught are highlighted in boxes.I plan to integrate the lesson plans into my own teachings, especially the using the “dot” concept as a home base, so that each student will know their place in the class which will give them a very simple, clear and safe home base. AMTM is not afraid to raise the bar of expectations and presume competence. Ms’ Lara & Bowers believe that each person will be able to embody their learnings, cooperate, take on leadership roles and be able to take their knowledge out of the dance class and into the world. With is clearly definable goals and easy to follow strategies, Autism Movement Therapy Method, is a whole-brain cognitive thinking approach that can significantly improve emotional, physical and social skills for all students.I highly recommend Autism Movement Therapy Method for all dance teachers, studios and anybody who works teaching movement, as dance should be available to everyone. AMTM is a kind and respectful method to bring the art of dance to people of all abilities.Full Disclosure: The authors provided me with

Moonshine whisky and murder done in the name of pride and revenge fuel this tale of what a man might be driven to in times of grief and hopelessness. In the last quarter of the 19th century, Godwin Merritt discovers the entrance to his Colorado silver mine is legally on his neighbor’s property. Without tipping his hand to his neighbor, Danforth, he sets out to purchase the land to secure his rights. Schemers in the boomtown below the mine team up with Godwin’s old rivals, The Black Rock Runners, to snatch the land away and with it all the silver it puts out. Godwin's neighbor finds himself on the wrong end of the sheriff’s gun. His neighbor haunts Godwin throughout his battle with the old rivals, at times aiding him and others driving him mad. Danforth steadily guides Godwin toward his ultimate goal, freeing himself of the blood feud with The Black Rock Runners and securing his mine property. Early on, The Black Rock Runners dispatch gunmen to Merritt’s ranch and after bloody confrontations in Colorado, Godwin gathers what remains of his family and heads back to Michigan to confront his old rivals. A battle on the confluence where Godwin brutally kills his enemies leaves him hollow and wondering if he will ever be whole again. Godwin Merritt wants to do something he can’t…stop killing Mattocks. Decades later, Godwin, ravaged by battles and illness, finds himself with one more demon to slay…on his own doorstep.

By 777 Having enjoyed the author's work on the short 'Snake In The Hourglass', I was intrigued at the recent publication of his first novel - 'The Confluence'. After reading, the author shows a trusting, researched grasp of a fading period in American history, examining with a second set of modern eyes the often forgotten struggle to protect a family's land in the ever evolving anthropological wake of greed and competition inherent in man past, present and convincingly, the future. The converse is present in 'The Confluece' as well, a venture into the minds of those who see fit to not protect, but seize, by any self-justifying angle, to take what is not theirs. This, in essence, is the confluence of theme in the novel.Fans of modern cinematic historical reinterpretations 'There Will Be Blood' or 'Django Unchained' will recognize the importance of not just looking back at the past for what it was, but return now with what we know to acknowledge parallels all to common in modern man.It also should be noted the authors knack for precise literary incision that do not heal for days."Every animal has enough brain to tan its own hide."Yikes.Western/Historical/Horror

By Stacy Smith Started the book in the morning and could not put it down till I read the last page. This book is well written, Fast paced and addicting. Twists and turns at every page and he really made the characters come alive. And though I've read some excellent books this year, I haven't come across a novel that would appeal to so many readers. This book has all the makings of an absolute block buster. Because it's so well plotted to say William's story is "gripping" is an understatement, it is simply breathtaking. It's a hell of a book, and is sure to be a hell of a movie.Fantastic book. Enough factual information to create a plausible reality! Well worth the read. It sticks with you long after you've completed it.Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good read.

Just as grief is an experience that affects us physically, mentally, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually, yoga sustains and strengthens us in all of those same areas. This book demonstrates how the principles and practices of yoga can help relieve symptoms of grief allowing those who have experienced loss to move toward wholeness, peace, and feelings of connection with loved ones who have died.

Exploring the six branches of yoga, the book shows how each branch can support us through grief in different ways whether it be the self-reflection of Jnana Yoga, the spiritual devotion of Bhakti Yoga, the meditation of Raja Yoga, or the physical postures of Hatha Yoga. We are shown how to begin and sustain a personal practice, both on and off the yoga mat, which helps us to cope with and move through grief on multiple levels. Expressive and experiential exercises are included to help explore each of the branches of yoga and find ways to put the tenets of each branch into real life practice.

Yoga for Grief and Loss: Poses, Meditation, Devotion, Self-Reflection, Selfless Acts, Ritual, by Karla Helbert

Review Typically when we are overwhelmed with grief, words can only go so far in bringing relief and comfort. These words written by Karla Helbert, however, are the most powerful, useful, insightful, and comprehensive that I've ever seen. She is presenting something very special to the world and what she has accomplished is awe-inspiring. Ms. Helbert has pulled herself up from her own loss, and is thankfully now generously sharing her wisdom. I hope that you don't need this book very often in your life, but when you do, it will be your guide and companion to find your way back from a broken heart. --Swami Asokananda, President Integral Yoga Institute of New YorkKarla Helbert's new book, Yoga for Grief and Loss, is much more than its mere title. This book contains within its pages the depth and breadth of grief's nuances, its crevices, its core questions. It is a navigable, shimmering gift that invites the bereaved reader through the darkness of mourning. Practical yet deeply numinous, I recommend Helbert's Yoga for Grief and Loss highly; not as a means to heal or cure or overcome grief-rather, this book will help grievers to be with, turn toward, and grow through grief. Few authors have accomplished this with such honesty and grace. --Joanne Cacciatore PhD, Professor Arizona State University, Author of Selah: An Invitation Toward Fully Inhabited Grief, Founder of The MISS FoundationFinally! In a sea of books on grief that fall dismally short, Karla Helbert skillfully presents a path that companions pain, rather than trying to solve it. Through the lens of yoga, Helbert demonstrates that the true teachings of all spiritual traditions help us find ways to bear the life that's asked of us. We can hold deeply disparate realities - worlds of pain, worlds of comfort - without being forced to choose between the extremes of endless sadness or faux-positivity. Yoga for Grief and Loss is part of a new paradigm of books helping to change the way our culture tends to grief. --Megan Devine, Licensed Professional Counselor, founder of Refuge in Grief, author of Everything is Not Okay

(Swami Asokananda, President Integral Yoga Institute of New York)Karla Helbert's new book, Yoga for Grief and Loss, is much more than its mere title. (Joanne Cacciatore PhD, Professor Arizona State University, Author of Selah: An Invitation Toward Fully Inhabited Grief, Founder of The MISS Foundation)Finally! (Megan Devine, Licensed Professional Counselor, founder of Refuge in Grief, author of Everything is Not Okay)This very profound yet practical guide reviews what yoga can offer to someone grieving a loss. Sensitively written and incorporating very current understandings of grief, Karla Helbert's Yoga for Grief and Loss offers wisdom and ways to "adapt, adjust, and accommodate" to our new, however unwelcome, reality. (Kenneth J Doka, PhD, Professor, The College of New Rochelle, Senior Consultant, The Hospice Foundation of America)

In my own grief experiences and sitting with many bereaved students over many years, I have often marveled at grief's capacity to cut through all that is unreal and unimportant and to focus a laser beam of light onto the deepest longings of one's soul, to push aside all the trivialities of everyday life, until all that's left is loving. Karla's book reflects and honors this profound gift of grief. Unlike so many well-meaning "Yoga for ...." books, this book is not about a prescription to do anything. It is not the disconnected (or misdirected) directive of the therapist or yoga teacher. Rather it is a profound and profoundly loving acknowledgement of grief as an individual process, born out of, and in fact, a form of, love. This book will absolutely become required reading for trainees in my Integrated Movement Therapy training program - it is not only packed with wisdom on yoga, it is truly an invitation for all of us to meet the grieving, and grief itself with a humble sense of spaciousness and allowing. This book is truly a gift.

(Molly Lannon Kenny, MS-CCC, Vice President of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, founder and director of the Samarya Center in Seattle WA, and developer of Integrated Movement Therapy®.)

Raja Yoga has been defined as the Psychology and Philosophy of yoga, two relevant sciences that help us deal with the unknown, such as loss and death. How we deal with them in a way that helps us grieve and find meaning, minimizing suffering and transforming it into wisdom, is the focus of this book.It is deep and authentic, coming from Karla's personal experience with the loss of her firstborn baby, and from her intense study of Raja Yoga, the study of the mind and human behavior, also the foundation of her Integral Yoga teacher training. I am in awe of her amazing gift of transforming and making available to all, what could be a dry academic study of the ancient texts into a very practical yoga therapy tool that addresses the devastating effects of grief and loss through Yoga. Such a refreshing, effective and inspiring approach!

(Nora Vimala Pozzi, e-RYT500, PRYT, YCaT, Director of Integral Yoga® Center of Richmond and Teacher Training, Yoga Therapist/Trainer, Raja Yoga Teacher & Senior Faculty at Yogaville.)As a Board Certified Chaplain working in hospital, hospice, nursing and aging facilities since 1998, I find Karla's book a very useful tool for those in grief, I believe Karla's explanation of the yogic life style and its many paths, to be very inclusive, easy to read, study, and incorporate into anyone's own life. I congratulate Karla Helbert for presenting to the public this useful tool for dealing with grief from the yogic perspective. (Swami Sarvaananda, PHD, BCC, PHD in Education Administration, University of Connecticut, 1980, BCC: board certified chaplain, Association of Professional Chaplains)What a treasure! This is the book that my heart longed for when my own child died and I cast about for something to both acknowledge and bless the transformational fire sweeping through the landscape of my soul. With deeply grounded wisdom, Karla Helbert simultaneously affirms the unmitigated pain of losing someone we love and offers trustworthy tools to help us navigate the wilderness of loss. By engaging the ancient systems of Yoga, we are guided to embrace our grief as the sacred state it is and allow ourselves to connect with the Love that "yokes" us together for all of time. (Mirabai Starr, Translator of Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross, author of Caravan of No Despair: A Memoir of Loss and Transformation (Sounds True))Karla Helbert knows the territory of grief. Her deep spiritual understanding, through the philosophy and practice of Yoga, is the GPS that helped her navigate the death of her infant son. This is not a book of postures, although they are included. Through the essential teachings of yoga, Helbert's Yoga for Grief and Loss shines a light through the clouds of unknowing that follow loss. Let the gift of these teachings be your ultimate guide to welcoming all that arises through bereavement. Read the book and practice the many self-inquiry exercises, meditations, mantras, mudras, yoga breathing exercises and postures, and you will ride the waves of your loss home to who you truly are. (Amy Weintraub, founder of the LifeForce Yoga Healing Institute, author of Yoga for Depression (Broadway Books) and Yoga Skills for Therapists (W.W. Norton))A wonderful book that helps to unite our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states during times of grief and loss. It offers a practical guide to yoga so we can move close to wholeness and harmony. The book contains practical tips and almost 100 asanas, meditations, breathwork, journaling and the creation of rituals to find our unique path through grief towards peace and connection. Highly recommended. (Yoga Magazine)

Karla Helbert’s “Yoga for Grief and Loss” showed me that yoga is a complex philosophical system and a way of being, not merely a sequence of poses, which is what most books, magazines, television shows, yoga classes, and morning workout routines depict yoga as. The poses most people are familiar with constitute merely one branch of a larger tree. Yoga has other limbs---it is a system of knowledge, of devotion, of transformation, of self-reflection, of selfless acts, and of rituals. And even though yoga is dense and complex, this is an easy to follow and to utilize book; it contains not just information, but is a useful tool to help the reader (who may know absolutely nothing about yoga) to learn how to accept and to cope with the grief that accompanies loss. Even if you think you’ve not lost anything to grieve over, the book is treasury of meditations, creative exercises, and mindfulness practices. “Yoga for Grief and Loss” is hands down the best book on yoga I have ever read, the best book on grief I have ever read, and certainly the best book on the market that addresses the intersection of yoga and grief. I recommend it to all my friends and even to the trainers and teachers at my gym. Should be read by everyone.

Wisdom From The Heart for Life After Loss By Heather Stang Yoga for grief and loss beautifully combines the author's personal story of loss with yoga's wise philosophy and contemporary grief research. The result is a compassionate guide for people who are bereaved as well as grief professionals like myself. I will be incorporating several of the techniques into my grief groups.

Amazon.com Review

An Amazon Best Book of the Month, January 2015: Intersecting, overlapping, not-quite-what-they-seem lives. Jealousies and betrayals and wounded hearts. A haunting unease that clutches and won’t let go. All this and more helps propel Paula Hawkins’s addictive debut into a new stratum of the psychological thriller genre. At times, I couldn’t help but think: Hitchcockian. From the opening line, the reader knows what they’re in for: “She’s buried beneath a silver birch tree, down towards the old train tracks…” But Hawkins teases out the mystery with a veteran’s finesse. The “girl on the train” is Rachel, who commutes into London and back each day, rolling past the backyard of a happy-looking couple she names Jess and Jason. Then one day Rachel sees “Jess” kissing another man. The day after that, Jess goes missing. The story is told from three character’s not-to-be-trusted perspectives: Rachel, who mourns the loss of her former life with the help of canned gin and tonics; Megan (aka Jess); and Anna, Rachel’s ex-husband’s wife, who happens to be Jess/Megan’s neighbor. Rachel’s voyeuristic yearning for the seemingly idyllic life of Jess and Jason lures her closer and closer to the investigation into Jess/Megan’s disappearance, and closer to a deeper understanding of who she really is. And who she isn’t. This is a book to be devoured. -Neal Thompson

Review "Really great suspense novel. Kept me up most of the night. The alcoholic narrator is dead perfect." STEPHEN KING "The thriller scene will have to up its game if it's to match Hawkins this year" Observer "A complex and increasingly chilling tale courtesy of a number of first-person narratives that will wrong-foot even the most experienced of crime fiction readers" Irish Times "achieves a sinister poetry ... Hawkins keeps the nastiest twist for last" Financial Times "Hawkins' masterful deployment of unwittingly unreliable narration to evoke the aftershocks of abuse and trauma is a powerful way of exploring women's marginalization" Huffington Post

About the Author Paula Hawkins worked as a journalist for fifteen years before turning her hand to fiction. She lives in London." The Girl on the Train "is her first thriller. It is being published all over the world and has been optioned by Dreamworks.

ALCOHOLIC AMNESIA By Red Rock Bookworm THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN is a dark, haunting and depressing psychological thriller, but it's incredibly effective thanks to the writing skills of author Paula Hawkins. Rachel is a divorced woman who would do anything for a drink, and like a lot of folks consumed by a love affair with the bottle, one might call her a victim of circumstances. Her husband Tom had an affair that resulted in a pregnancy. He divorced Rachel, married the "other woman" and now all three (husband, wife and child) are happily ensconced in the house that was once Rachel's.The train that Rachel rides to London each day takes her past her old neighborhood. From the window of the train she observes not only her old garden that backs up to the tracks, but also the daily activities of another couple who reside down the street from her previous home. In her imagination she has given the couple names and has created a fairy tale love life for them. Real life, however, cannot live up to her fantasy and the couple does not have the picture perfect relationship that Rachel has concocted. When a murder occurs, Rachel becomes entangled in the investigation because of what she has witnessed on her daily commute. This rather bleak story with intersecting timelines is told from the viewpoint of three different women Rachel, Anne and Megan. All the women are unreliable narrators with something to hide. In fact, most of the characters in this novel, including the men, lack veracity, and are a self-serving and unsympathetic group with plenty of skeletons in their closets.Lest I continue and divulge too much of the plot, let me just say that the twists and turns in the story are many and readers will be easily drawn in, making it easy to devour this book in one afternoon.

She feels that women are only valued for two things: their looks and their role as a mother. She is barren and rather plain looking. Unbeknownst to her landlady she has lost her job but continues to ride the commuter train twice a day. Unfortunately she must pass the home of her ex-husband Tom and his new wife Anna. They've recently had a child which is something Rachel was unable to produce when she was married to him. He's moved his new family into the home that he and Rachel once shared. Tom posted a picture of himself and his newborn on Facebook with the caption that he's never been happier.Rachel, in her despondency, has taken to drinking to a point where she has blackouts and forgets that she drunk calls her husband many times a night, even shows up at his home. Because of a signal malfunction she often finds her rail car stopped on the tracks next to her former home. She starts to notice another couple who live a few doors down. She refers to them as the golden couple and manufactures a narrative about their lives as she observes them each day. They gradually become important to her. When Megan (of the Golden Couple) disappears Rachel finds herself an integral character in the police investigation. She was seen stalking the neighborhood the night of the disappearance. She has wounds on her body that can't be explained. Megan and Anna look enough alike that the police feel there may be mistaken identity involved. The book is told in three voices: Rachel, Megan and Anna. The fact that Rachel has a history of drunken blackouts and has a hard time separating fact from fiction makes her overtly suspect, even to herself. Megan has plenty of secrets of her own and Anna - is she the perfect second wife she appears to be?I understand that the option of this book has been picked up by DreamWorks. I can't think of a better Hitchcock style mystery of voyeuristic observation since Rear Window.

From the window of her train, troubled, alcoholic commuter Rachel Watson watches the world --including a couple who are frequently out on their terrace at the very point her train stops every day. She names them Jason and Jess and decides their lives are the perfect happy-ever-after that hers has never been. But then Jess, whose name is really Megan, goes missing; and Rachel's memory of the night Megan disappeared is a yawning black hole. Did she see something? Can she help these strangers who continually draw her into their lives? I expected a taut psychological exploration driven by the mystery, but Hitchcock this isn't. None of the characterizations ring true, and the plot is created by withholding information the characters would naturally be thinking about (other than Rachel, who can't think about the plot due to alcohol-induced blackouts).I didn't find a single one of these characters to be genuine in their humanity. They're not merely unlikable; their un-likability is forced and exaggerated. Rachel's convenient blackouts happen so frequently as to become tedious. Even sober, she constantly makes atrocious decisions, all the while acknowledging to herself variations on "I'm stupid" and "I shouldn't be doing this." She has no common sense, no boundaries, no willpower, no emotional fortitude whatsoever. The other first-person narrators are no more believable: Anna, who is married to Rachel's ex-husband Tom and seems to be a mash-up of sociopath and nurturer (what?); and Megan, about whom I really can't say anything without spoiling the mystery. The problem is, Megan's point of view conceals key things about herself as well, to the degree that the reader doesn't even know about the concealing until the climax (at which point there's no "aha," only frustration). In addition, the voices of these women are interchangeable and the climax includes the villain opining about his/her heartlessness using dialogue cliches to disparage the others while everyone sits around on sofas and drinks tea.The characters of THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN remind me of those I've met in novels by Gillian Flynn and Chevy Stevens. Fans of those authors will likely eat this book up, too. But neither Flynn nor Stevens are my thing, so it's no surprise Hawkins isn't either. Next time other readers make such a comparison, I'll trust them and avoid.

Wolcott Besides being addicted to Kat Martin's books from the moment I picked up "Night Secrets," I picked up "Wicked Promise" because the heroine's last name was practically a dead-ringer for mine. Being decidedly English in culture, I knew this book was sure to please. And, it did.One of the most enjoyable aspects of Kat Martin's books is the setting. She can capture Victorian England in such a way that there is no doubt in my mind that's exactly what Victorian England looked and felt like, even down to the sootiness of the city (which so many authors fail to mention in 19th century England romances) and the hellish cells and the poor souls of Newgate prison. On to the story. Elizabeth Woolcot is desperate for protection against her pompous neighbor who is hell-bent on marrying her. Nicholas Warring grudgingly agrees to help her, but does everything he can to keep Elizabeth at arms' length away from him, even going so far as to purposely set out to make Elizabeth think he's the rogue everyone says he is. He could care less about propriety and what society says - they deserted him when he killed a man nine years before. And now, that dead man's brother is trying very hard to marry Elizabeth, and he'll do anything (ANYTHING) to get her. When Nicholas realizes his love for Elizabeth, he sets into motion a plan that will see him free to love her. Unfortunately, through a series of events, he finds himself in a Newgate prison cell facing the hangman's noose. What follows is a hilarious scene (even in the shadow of a serious problem) which really had me giggling. Elizabeth is a strong heroine and does her best to defend herself. She's no ninny, either, even if she does put herself into some awkward situations. She still defends herself and does what she can to survive. And, she sets out to return the help she received from Nicholas when he finds himself in a situation he's helpless to rectify. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Nicholas is wonderful, and I truly enjoyed reading their story. Their chemistry sizzles and the plot is fast-moving, all the way up to the end. Kat does a wonderful job keeping the reader on the edge of her seat with the twists and turns of the plot. I also enjoy catching glimpses of Kat Martin's characters in other stories. Nicholas and Elizabeth can be seen in "Silk and Steel," yet another excellent romp through Victorian England and aristocratic society.Dana K. Wolcott

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. bits and pieces By Amy i love kat martin books. her steamy writing style, characters that aren't afraid of society or their sexuality (a nice change from simpid writers to caught up in being afraid of wanting another person) and great secondary characters. I felt torn on this book for though there were parts i dearly loved there were also parts of the book where i was just like "What the hell was that?!"First for the good: Elizabeth is a woman needs protection. After her father dies she is sought after but a man who is determined to have her, even by foul means. She asks Nicholas warring, her guardian, for protection and he grudgingly agrees. One problem, he's wildly attracted to her. Nicholas killed a man nine years ago and was sent off to serve his time. He's gone down hill since his return, earning the name the "wicked earl" for his rakish ways.Elizabeth is the breath of fresh air that has nicholas' head spinning. i loved the way nicholas is determined to protect elizabeth from him and the life he lives. The passion the two of them have is great. the way they each have power over each other is a nice change from the always experienced hero. i loved nicholas' character in how he is protective and tortured. you have love those kind of heros...a little jaded but still a teddy bear inside. the bedroom scenes were great as always though like anything else they alone can't carry a book. Now for the bad parts: the problem of nicholas being married is pretty much ignored throughout the book. his wife is in all of three scenes. elizabeth is almost to naive when she proclaims that nicholas is not married in the "eyes of god" since his wife left abandoned him when he was convicted of murder. The ending was to predictable. this story follows the cookie cutter regency era romance. everything is solved nice and neat and though this is ultimately a good thing it's to spontaneous and easy to really make an impacton the reader. i found myself asking "is that it?" which isn't really that great a sign.did i enjoy this book? yes. did i think it was one of the best kat martin has written? no. though the passion is there and burning hot there book starts to decline in the end.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. More like 3 1/2 stars... By Abbys Elizabeth and Nicky isn't exactly one of my favorite couples in all of Kat Martin's books. They do have heart warming moments but not enough to form an impression. In fact, I was more enthralled with Maggie's character. I wished there was more of her and Alex. Their story was short yet very lovable and hearty. For a primary characters, I think Elizabeth & Nicky needed a bit more expanding for me to fully appreciate them. I mean, individually they are well described but together, they lack development. There was not enough spark for me to feel that spastic reaction. They need more of internal conflicts for me to see and feel the true color of their relationship. In my opinion, the murder/mystery twist seemed to have overshadowed Nick and Elizabeth's love-romance story. I am not extremely fond of murder plots, perhaps this is the reason why I didn't enjoy this book to the fullest. I admit, there are times where I wouldn't mind and/or in fact, even enjoy such twist but on this circumstances, the murder plot here in WICKED PROMISE was just too common for my liking... So, you can say it's all a matter of taste and preferences. Read it anyway, you might like it more than I have. Also, I find this book somewhat slow... it takes awhile to get to the point. A bit verbose. But as soon as you past that, the story progresses and becomes quite intriguing. Aside from Maggie's character, I was also captivated by Randall character. He is the Duke of Beldon, Nicky's friend. I wasn't sure if Kat Martin wrote a book just for him... but I hoped! Boy, was I happy to learn upon my search here in Amazon that PERFECT SIN is Randall's book. OVERALL, Wicked Promise is a good read. I have no regrets reading this book at all. If you like murder/mystery plots in your historical romance novels, then this one is definitely for you.

Thoughtful, well written story By Kitty Smith This is a thoughtful, well written story, though I think perhaps the "Sex" in the title might be a bit misleading. If you're looking for hard core erotica, it's not that. There are a handful of steamy sex scenes that evolve along the way but the primary focus is more towards current social issues and climate change.Laurel is an interesting character, and if you don't recognize shades of yourself in her you surely will connect her to someone you know. She's gone through life playing a role without much thought to what her real needs and wants might be. Now widowed and alone, she must finally learn to stand on her own two feet and not only manage her life but her husband's furniture store as well. Her journey is like a coming of age story, and I loved seeing her come to life and take control. The real drama begins when trusted friend Megan suggests Laurel hire a consultant and security person, who also happens to be a professional escort. Laurel is dead set against the idea, picturing a common street pimp showing up, but when Megan introduces her to Dak Gordon she's both impressed and intrigued. It's soon clear Dak is way more than just booty for hire, and he opens Laurel's eyes and mind in ways she never imagined.Overall a wonderful, thoughtful story with brilliantly crafted characters and an empowering plot. This is one story I'll be reading more than once.

Vania’s “The Secret Ecology of Sex” addresses current issues in the world, such as the destruction of the environment and climate change, through the story of one woman's journey and personal growth. The main character is Laurel Bradford, who is faced with the task of taking over her husband’s furniture store after his death. With the help of her husband’s former assistant, Megan Yates, and her wife, Laurel begins on a journey of empowerment and discovery. When Megan encourages Laurel to meet escort and environmental activist Dak Gordon, she explores her beliefs, sexuality, and desires, experiencing more than she could have ever imagined. Vania does an excellent job balancing an interesting plot with thought-provoking, well-researched facts about the environment. A recommended read if you want an entertaining read that’ll make you think and inspire you at the same time.

Great eye-opening read By TFLReader While the title of this book may suggest one thing, what I received from "The Secret Ecology of Sex" was an eye-opening journey of discovery through one women's experiences. The story of Laurel, a recent widow who is fortunate to have the support of several friends as she struggles in her business and to chart her new path. After meeting activist Dak Gordon, things change for her and some very interesting doors are opened. There were a few very steamy scenes in this story but I found the discussion of social issues and the personal growth to be the most noteworthy elements to the read. Very well done.

This classic book offers a fascinating insight into the life of women and children in the Boer war, as witnessed first-hand by the well-known British welfare campaigner Emily Hobhouse. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Lifting the covers on the world's first concentration camps By Michael The magic of this book lies in the fact that it is written "in the moment" by someone who was actually there and witnessed first hand the senseless extermination of innocent women and children - black and white - by the British Army in the world's first concentration camps, with impunity and no accountability. These were - and still are - war crimes that were committed by the British in the their relentless theft of land in Africa through illegal colonisation. Emily Hobhouse, despite her British heritage, and to her eternal credit, exposes the British Army and the British Government for what they were - and no doubt still are - corrupt, incompetent, bombastic and deceitful. If you want to understand the roots of apartheid that brought so much misery to South Africa for so long, you simply need to read this book.

For some time now educators have recognized the benefits of active learning, teaching the lesson using activities that engage the participants. The Emotional Intelligence Activity Kit combines two powerful concepts, the need for greater emotional intelligence and the benefits of activity based learning to provide a useful resource which will help people absorb the lessons of emotional intelligence faster and on a deeper level. In the book, the authors Adele Lynn and Janele Lynn first give some background information on the importance of emotional intelligence (EQ) in our work and our lives. Then they provide useful guidelines on how to use the book. Next is an overview of the structure of the various activities contained in the book. The real meat of the book is 50 activities that trainers/teachers and coaches can use to help their workers and clients gain a better understanding of EQ and how to apply the lessons in their lives. Finally there are very good cross reference tables at the end of the book which allows the user to quickly scan and select the activities which will best suit their desired outcomes. The activities are well organized and the reader will have all the information necessary to understand the desired outcome, the most appropriate audience and the level of disclosure (personal risk) the audience will be asked to take. The guidelines for each activity are well stated. If you are a corporate trainer, teacher or coach that uses group activities to enhance the EQ among your followers, then this would be a very helpful resource. There is a wide variety of activities and you will certainly be able to find one that is suitable for any EQ lesson you want to teach. The activity based learning will help reinforce the lesson and make it much easier for the audience to remember. Seeking a principle in action will also make it easier for the audience to see how the lesson applies to real life situations. It takes the learning from the theoretical to the practical.I was provided a review copy of this book.
